Grace has always been a little reserved. Dropping her off at kindergarten (all-day) was not easy and it took months before she stopped crying when we dropped her off at Ladybug daycare. It is with this experience in mind that we approached the first day of 1st Grade yesterday. Grace slept while Heather and I had dreams with anxiety threads in them. When Grace woke up she was very tired but also a little excited to put on that new outfit and her “Red by Marc Ecko” shoes. Breakfast with a little “Fairly Odd Parents” and we were all ready to set off to East Union. School starts at 9:20am so Grace attends “Club Care” before school care so that her Mom and Dad can hold normal jobs. We arrived at school after the 5 minute drive and proceeded to her locker so she could put her backpack and lunch away. Then back down the hall to the gymnasium/lunch room/before school care room. When we arrived to sign her in Miss Peg remembered Grace from the Kindergarten Center last year. The other girls, all in higher grades than Grace, came over to meet her and make her feel welcome. I found out later that they looked out for her on her first day, even holding hands with her so she’d feel comfortable. We then said our good-byes, got BIG hugs, and left. What a rock star! No tears in a new school. Day 2 went just as well. All of our parental anxieties were just that and she did great!

It has been a while since I’ve posted. It is very difficult to sit down and write, that is why I’ve been trying to find a way to post entries and photos from my phone. It isn’t quite there yet so the entries remain scarce. I have been busy though. Father’s Day, 4th of July, falling down the stairs, MRI, cabin, etc. Pictures are up for all but Father’s Day, just haven’t gotten to it yet. Updated the site software and modules today and it all still works (YAY!) and changed the way my back yard weather is displayed. Tomorrow we go to the Twins game for Grace’s first Twins game!!! Have a safe and fun Saturday night y’all!

Today Grace was fishing with Grandpa Bill (after making him come back with the boat so she could go too) and was her usual chatterbox self. “Fishy, fishy, bite my hook…” was what she would say while waiting for a fish. With only a worm she pulled in a 3 lb. northern after saying “Grandpa, I think I’m going to need a little help with this one!”. All together she caught 5 fish but the northern and a 1 lb. crappy were the only ones worth keeping. I hope all of her Randash relatives realize that these fish were caught on West Silent Lake and that Great-Grandpa Elmer HAD to be helping her out!

Look in the Gallery and you’ll find a picture of what’s missing in Grace’s smile. Seems that she has a tooth that is eager to come in even before the baby tooth has vacated it’s space. This led to a trip to the dentist with Dad. Dad has a tendency to be the parent present when there might be pain involved like when Grace went to the ER after biting through her lip or when she has to get a shot. Last Friday at 12:20pm we arrived at the dentist’s office in Eden Prairie apparently moments after the power went out. They still saw her as the exam room has a big window and they were still willing to pull the tooth but there would be no “happy” gas. Grace said no. No “happy” gas, no pully tooth. We left, only to have Mom call the dentist back and try to get us in as soon as the power came back on. At 3:30pm we returned and a little while later she had the most endearing gap in her smile. There was “happy” gas involved but for some reason it was more like “tingly” gas as the only thing it did was to make her fingers a little tingly. Next time we’ll have to figure out another way to ease her anxiety about stuff she hasn’t done yet.
